Diving boat Punta in the sea

What to Expect

Last updated: July 17, 2026

Here is how a typical diving day at Punta Diving works — from arrival at our centre in Betina to your last dive of the day. Times below are approximate; we confirm the plan when you book or check in. See our price list and contact page to plan your visit.

In peak season we usually run a morning boat and often a second boat the same day. Most trips include two dives per outing. We may run 1–2 boats per day in peak season.

Morning boat

  • ~08:00 — Arrive at the centre (see Before your first dive).
  • ~08:30 — Briefing and setting up gear on the boat - tanks should be waiting for you on the boat
  • ~09:00 — Departure, travel times are usually between 20 and 45 minutes
  • Two dives — Kornati National Park, wrecks, or local reefs.
  • Surface interval — Usually about one hour on board between the two dives (time to change tanks, eat, and rest).
  • ~12:45–13:45 — Back at the harbour (varies with the trip).

Afternoon boat (when scheduled)

  • Departure is not fixed — usually between 12:30 and 14:30, depending on when the morning boat returns.
  • Arrive ~30 minutes before departure (we confirm the time the day before or at the morning briefing).
  • Two dives — with a surface interval of about one hour on board between dives; return around 18:00 (approximate).

Optional third dive — May be available on request; see our price list.

Contact us via our contact form, email, phone, or in person. Tell us your dates, number of divers, certification levels, and how many dives you would like. We will reply with availability and next steps.

You can enquire anytime — it is never too early, especially for July and August. Peak-season boat spaces fill up; booking ahead secures your dates.

Once we agree dates, we send a check-in link to complete your details. If online check-in is not possible, register in person as described in Before your first dive. There is no fixed cutoff — it depends on current occupancy — but the earlier you confirm, the easier it is for us to prepare gear and paperwork.

Sometimes, if there is space on the boat and we can fit you in — it depends on current occupancy. If you are already registered or checked in, same-day is usually easier. First-time guests need more time in the morning; contact us the day before if you can. Walk-ins are possible when we have room, but not guaranteed.

Dive center from seen from the air

Preferred: online check-in — We send a private check-in link before your visit. Please complete your diver details in advance so we can prepare paperwork and equipment. On your first dive morning, allow a few extra minutes at the centre to confirm sizes, sign any remaining forms, and stow your gear.

If online check-in is not possible — Visit the centre the day before your first dive (during opening hours) for registration, certification check, and rental sizing. This helps keep the boat on schedule.

Same-day registration — If we have agreed this in advance (e.g. a last-minute booking), you can register on the morning of your dive. Please arrive earlier than the usual 30 minutes so we do not delay departure.

Haven't dived in 6+ months? Mention it when you book so we can plan a refresher.

Bring

  • Certification card (physical or digital) and logbook if you have one
  • Photo ID
  • Dive insurance if your certification agency requires it
  • Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, hat, reusable water bottle
  • Any personal medication (e.g. seasickness tablets)

Rentals — We rent wetsuits and other kit (no dry suits). Order in advance when possible via contact or at check-in.

Gr. Misi from the dive boat Punta 1

Our boat — Punta 1 — Day trips run on Punta 1, our 9 m open-deck dive boat (up to 10 people including crew). She has an open layout for gear and easy water entries, a marine toilet on board, and seating on deck. Shade is limited — most of the surface interval is in the sun. Full specs and photos on Our boats.

Briefing — Every trip starts with a briefing covering dive sites, maximum depths, entry and exit procedures, hand signals, and the day’s schedule. Ask questions at any time.

Surface intervals — Between dives we stay on board. Use the break to change tanks, eat, and rest.

What we provide — For standard recreational dives: tanks, weights, and drinking water on board (free). See the price list for other inclusions.

What to bringLight food for the surface interval. Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) — the deck is open with limited shade. Layers for wind and spray on the ride. Secure anything that can blow overboard (loose bags, caps).

Non-divers — Space for observers is limited and must be arranged in advance. Please contact us before booking.

Tech divers in shallow water

Water temperatures

Surface water in season is typically 20–27 °C (warmest 24–26 °C in July–August). At depth, expect around 16 °C.

Summer air on deck is warm, but water at depth is much cooler — a contrast that catches some divers off guard between dives.

Dry-suit divers — Often comfortable at depth, but very warm on the open boat during surface intervals. Wear light layers you can peel off on deck, vent your suit if needed, and drink plenty of water (we provide drinking water on board).

Wetsuit divers — The water feels refreshing underwater; on hot, sunny surface intervals, stay in the shade when you can and keep hydrating between dives.

Open Water divers

Fun dives — Join the scheduled boat(s) as a certified diver. Two dives per trip is the usual format.

SSI courses — Training days combine classroom or online theory, confined-water skills, and open-water dives. You may share a boat with fun divers or follow a dedicated training schedule, depending on the course and season. Browse our SSI courses and contact us to match dates.

Try Scuba / first breath underwater — Usually a half-day shore session, not on the two-dive boat schedule. We typically run these at our house reef, Plaža Punta Gradine — a short walk from the dive centre.

How long does a course take? Duration is listed on our SSI courses page — Open Water Diver is typically 3–4 days. Try Scuba and Basic Diver are one-day shore programmes. Extended Range (XR) and sidemount courses need advance booking and depend on instructor availability — contact us with your dates and certifications.

Otočić Bačvića from air

We choose sites based on weather, sea conditions, the experience mix on the boat, and bookings — the final plan is set at the morning briefing. We cannot publish a fixed site calendar weeks ahead; Adriatic conditions can change quickly, and forecasts are not always reliable.

Today's and tomorrow's trips are usually on our homepage when planned. We aim to update this daily; occasionally it runs a little late.

Kornati National Park — We dive there regularly in season, and if you join us for several days, you will often get a Kornati trip. We do not guarantee Kornati for single-day or short-notice bookings: park fees apply to everyone on the boat, conditions must be suitable, and we need enough notice to plan fairly for the whole group. If Kornati is a must, tell us well in advance when you book and we will do our best.

Stern of the boat in the fog

The Adriatic is generally calm in summer, but wind and swell can change our plans. Safety comes first: we may change sites, delay departure, or cancel a trip if conditions are unsuitable.

We let you know by phone, WhatsApp, or at the centre as early as we can. If a trip is cancelled due to weather, we rebook or refund according to our booking terms (ask when you reserve).

Motion sickness — If you are prone to seasickness, take medication before boarding and tell your guide.

Most recreational guests do two dives on the morning boat. In peak season you can often join a second two-dive trip later the same day, or add a third dive (usually a night dive) on request — subject to schedule and pricing.

About 30 minutes before departure. Morning boat ~09:00; afternoon boat between 12:30 and 14:30 depending on the morning trip — we confirm the day before. For today and tomorrow, departure times are often on our homepage schedule when trips are planned. First day without online check-in: come the day before or earlier as agreed.

Online check-in is best. Complete the link we send, then visit briefly on your first dive morning for gear and any remaining paperwork. If that is not possible, come the day before during opening hours.

Often one or two in peak season. If there is an afternoon boat, it usually leaves between 12:30 and 14:30, depending on when the morning boat returns.

For standard boat dives you need a recognised Open Water (or equivalent) certification. Required levels for deeper sites or specialties are listed on each dive site or course page.

Briefings are in English. Croatian and German are often available — ask when you book. We do not offer French or other languages as standard; if you need another language, contact us well in advance and we will try to arrange a suitable guide or point you to another centre.

Nitrox fills are available when booked in advance. Tell us at check-in and bring your Nitrox certification card.

Trimix fills are available for qualified technical divers when booked in advance. Tell us at check-in, bring your certification, and allow time for blending — helium mixes must be planned ahead.

Your own kit is welcome. Our cylinders have DIN valves — bring a DIN regulator, or an A-clamp (yoke) adapter; we also keep adapters at the centre if you need one. We rent wetsuits and individual items (no dry-suit hire) — reserve sizes early in peak season.

See our price list for what is included in fun dives versus courses.

Yes, when we can fit them into the schedule — not on fixed weekly days. Timing depends on that day's boat plan; we usually run night dives as a separate evening outing. Tell us when you book or at check-in.

You generally need a Night Diver certification (or equivalent). We also offer a Night Diving course if you want to qualify first. Pricing is on the price list.

If it has been more than 6 months since your last dive, or you feel rusty, tell us when you book. We offer a refresher and can often fit it in on the same morning before the boat if we know in advance. Contact us for availability and pricing.

Yes, within certification and safety limits — we follow agency standards for minimum age and depth. Minors need parent/guardian consent. Tell us ages and experience when you book so we can plan suitable sites and depth.

First-time / beginner experiences (including teens) are usually Try Scuba or Basic Diver — a half-day shore session at our house reef, not the two-dive boat schedule. See Courses vs fun dives.

Payment is handled at the centre before or after dives depending on your booking. Package deals and current prices are on the price list.
